Are you tired on living inside modern city apartment that reminds old concrete bunker and costs too much to afford? Maybe something more close to nature would be better? One way to go is by building your own hobbit hole. Hobbit hole is a house that's inspired by Tolkien's realm of Middle Earth. The house itself is usually earth sheltered and it can even be fully under the ground.

One really nice example of real hobbit hole is house built by Simon Dale. The house doesn't show up that much from outside, but the interiors are really nice looking. Using of natural materials instead of buying the ready-made supplies really gives uniquely warm and cosy feeling to the place. You're probably wondering how much this kind of place costs. It appears that not that much. Simon says that the price was £3000 + 1000-1500 work hours. House is also self-supporting with solar panels, natural spring for water and compost toilet, so it has barely no running costs and it also lefts minimal carbon footprint. Sounds like this setup gives best sides from almost everything, doesn't it?
