Cienna Ultra Lounge

Antonio Di Oronzo has designed this club/ultralounge in Astoria [New York]. What is your first impression upon seeing it for the first time? Well, mine is this; the ceiling is astounding, it is fussy and the color play makes it even more interesting. The next thing is the dim light. It is calming and relaxing. perfect for a lounge, where people gather and talk, and perhaps also relaxing. Additional Description from the architect: “The space is a cocoon entirely made of a seamless, tufted upholstered shell.

The distribution of the 8,888 buttons defining the tufting was organized via 3D software, and allowed for precise fabrication and permissible tolerances. The system of openings in the ceiling and walls of this shell is punctuated by 88,888 acrylic strands. Behind them is a system of LED light fixtures softly flooding the strands and the space with warm hues… and responding to music impulses via ad-hoc software.” Design by Bluarch Architecture + Interior.
